When we first started this journey, the vision was to hire 40 employees in 5 years. We have far surpassed that and are about 275 strong and still growing.

 

ESSENTIAL DUTIES AND RESPONSIBILITIES: all matters listed herein are considered to be essential job functions. There may be other job functions which are essential, but are not listed below. Also, Ehrmann Commonwealth Dairy may revise this description at any time deemed necessary.

 

  • The Product Development Technologist creates, formulates and produces new products/improved products, produces samples according to project briefings or tasks designated by the R&D manager and conducts the required documentation to ensure formulation databases are highly maintained.
  • This position is involved in initiatives for improving product quality and shelf life.
  • The primary practical duty is to produce product samples on the basis of the formulated recipes on laboratory, pilot or production scale for evaluation.
  • This position also ships prepared and collected samples which include adequate packing and tracking of samples for external evaluation.
  • Further, the Product Development Technologist plans, conducts and records the evaluation of the samples. The evaluation can comprise sensory assessment, laboratory testing, shelf-life testing, customer evaluation, consumer studies or test markets.
  • The person is also responsible maintain and to keep his/her equipment, tools, working place and related areas (e.g., lab, pilot plant, etc.) at a high standard of housekeeping and hygiene.

SQF Requirements

  • Maintain food safety and food quality through completing job tasks and maintaining the work area in a sanitary manner.
  • Required to wear food safety/sanitation clothing.
  • This position necessitates conformance to personal hygiene regulations.
  • Report food safety problems to personal with authority to initiate action.
  • Ensure all programs are being upheld and documentation is current.

 

Supervisory Responsibilities

  • This position does not supervise other employees.

 

QUALIFICATIONS:

 

Qualified High school diploma or general education degree (GED); food science degree preferred.

  • Proven grasp of food and dairy technology practices and terminology
  • Familiarity with Good Manufacturing Practices
  • Proficient in Microsoft Office Suite
  • Experience and understanding of the basics of innovation management would be beneficial
  •  

EDUCATION and/or EXPERIENCE High school diploma or general education degree (GED); food science degree preferred but not required.

 

LANGUAGE SKILLS Ability to read and comprehend simple instructions, short correspondence, and memos. Must have the ability to write simple correspondence and complete manufacturing documentation completely. Ability to effectively present information to other employees.

                                                                                                                                   

MATHEMATICAL SKILLS Ability to add, subtract, multiply, and divide in all units of measure, using whole numbers, common fractions, and decimals. Good understanding of percent functions.

 

REASONING ABILITY To apply common sense understanding to carry out instructions furnished in written, oral, or diagram form. Ability to deal with problems involving several variables in standardized situations.

 

PHYSICAL DEMANDS:

 

  • The candidate must pass a company pre-employment physical and drug screen prior to commencing work.
  • While performing the duties of this job, the employee is regularly required to stand, use hands and stretch and reach with hands and arms. The employee frequently is required to walk, stoop, kneel, crouch, or crawl; and talk or hear. The employee is occasionally required to climb or balance and smell. The employee must regularly lift and/or move up to 10 pounds, frequently lift and/or move up to 50 pounds and occasionally lift and/or move more than 100 pounds. Specific vision abilities required by this job include close vision. Must have full range of body motion.

WORK ENVIRONMENT:

  • While performing the duties of this job, the employee is regularly exposed to moving mechanical parts. The employee is frequently exposed to wet and /or humid conditions and risk of electrical shock.
  • The employee will be required to use all personal protective equipment provided by the company in compliance with OSHA regulations.

  • Must be able to work with others;
