The Buyer is responsible for:

  • managing the sourcing, ordering, and delivery of ingredients and packaging to ensure materials are on hand to meet production schedule while optimizing cost and obsolescence/weeks of inventory on hand .
  • In addition, s/he will manage raw material supplier day-to-day relationship to ensure compliance with our contracts and business needs, resolve issues, and escalate risks.
  • She/he will also assist in costing new business or changes to product specifications, maintain strong vendor relationships, identify and deliver productivity programs, and support periodic RFP initiatives..
  • Responsible for the total quality, continuous improvement, costs, service and value performance of the vendors supplying our manufacturing facilities.
  • Produces quarterly purchasing reports that summarizes vendor performance, upcoming meetings/contracts decisions, project initiatives, and issues.
  • Develop and maintain ongoing market insight and knowledge on critical commodities, vendors/suppliers, market conditions, economic factors, security issues and pricing domestically and internationally.
  • Develop annual ingredient and packaging budget rates.
  • Actively engage and support cross-functional efforts with Operations, Quality Assurance, Finance, R&D, Marketing and Sales. Included but not limited to new product development, product improvements, reformulations, changes in process.
  • Maintain the organizations purchasing policies, procedures, standards, and strategies to ensure process transparency, fairness, impartiality, and confidentiality.
  • Support proposal, bidding, and negotiation process while adhering to applicable legal standards and codes of ethical conduct.
  • Evaluate overall supplier health (supplier risk assessment).
  • Review and assess total supply chain risk and identify opportunities to minimize and eliminate risk.
  • Maintain current technical skills and apply new knowledge to management tasks for the improvement of purchasing activities.

Job Requirements

  • Bachelor's degree in business, supply chain, Agri-business, ingredient focus, or related discipline.
  • 3 to 5 years of experience in a sourcing or procurement role with a food manufacturing company with direct responsibility for supplier management.
  • Experience with SAP
  • Working knowledge and experience with strategic sourcing processes, including experience with RFPs and contract negotiations.
  • Change management/continuous and quality improvement background.
  • Demonstrated leadership and project management skills.
  • Position requires strong critical thinking and a high level of analytical and creative problem solving skills.
  • Ability to prioritize and manage multiple tasks and critical issues simultaneously.
  • Advanced communication and presentation skills, both written and verbal, with an emphasis on interpersonal and consensus building capabilities.
  • Must be self-motivated, able to deal with change, and demonstrate cross-functional team skills to provide required support as well as proficiency for collaboration, attention to detail and strong organizational skills.
  • Strong computer skills in Excel, PowerPoint, Word, and Outlook.
  • Travel, as requested.

  • This job has one direct report.
